In last month’s Sapphires, I wrote of the surprise of 2016 - the stunning outcome in the presidential election that shocked almost all of the world’s governments and most of the world’s people – the election of Donald Trump. In this issue, I will begin to speak of its significance.
Where was God in the election of 2016? First: He clearly allowed it. Second: In Scripture, God’s hand is often seen in the overturning of probability; when something appears to be against all odds, a David against Goliath; the armies of Israel against far greater forces; twelve disciples of a Jewish rabbi overcoming the might of the Roman Empire. The election of Donald Trump, without question, went against all odds.
2016 was not only a surprising year, but a troubling one. Many sincere believers were torn over Donald Trump. He certainly had not lived the life of a believer nor had he exemplified many Christian values. In many ways, his life spoke in the opposite direction. Could God use such a man and such a life?
The answer from Scripture is clearly yes. God used the Persian and pagan king Cyrus for the sake of His people Israel and the fiery ungodly warrior Jehu to shake a government and nation to end the dynasty of Ahab and Jezebel and the priests of Baal.
If so, then what could be the purpose of a Donald Trump? We know clearly what would have happened had the Democrats won. It was all there in the Democratic platform. The Hyde Amendment would have been struck down causing our tax dollars to go directly to the killing of the unborn. The government’s anti-biblical agenda, the endorsement of immorality, the oppressing and punishing of those who stood for God’s word, and the indoctrination of the nation’s children against the ways of God would not only have continued, but would have deepened and accelerated. It threatened to seal America’s future against the word of God. Indeed, as I wrote last month, the Democratic presidential candidate demanded that “deep-seated religious beliefs be changed so that abortion could expand.” Regardless of what one feels about Donald Trump, his election turned the political and governmental landscape upside down and gave hope that none of these were inevitable and that there could even be a turning back.
And something else happened: he began to surround himself with believers, from his vice president, Mike Pence, to members of his cabinet, to Christian ministers and leaders serving as his counsel. And we have even received confirmation that several key members of his campaign have read or are reading The Harbinger.
This issue is so important that I will continue to share in Sapphires next month as to the prophetic implications, the warning, and the call we have in the days ahead. In the meantime, are we to place our hope in politics, government, a party, or a man? No. But we are to and we must now pray for the new president, that he will fully yield himself to the will and leading of God. And above all, we must pray for revival.
This month, intercede as God’s priest for America, that this revival would come. And may God greatly bless you as you do!
