Jonathan Cahn: The Shemitah That Was and the Shaking to Come

I believe it is important to give an update.
I have given warning concerning judgment. I have said that I believe America is rapidly advancing toward calamity—that we have crossed the line in our apostasy and defiance of God. I've warned that if America continues in its present course, if there's no return to God, its crown as head of nations will be removed and that I believe a great shaking is coming to this nation and the world.
As for when these things are to take place, I have from the beginning always issued a strong caution, in spoken word and in writing, from The Mystery of the Shemitah itself onward—specifically that we cannot be dogmatic about timing, and that nothing has to take place on a particular date or season, or according to any set calendar, or even as God has done before.
I have ministered that it is wise to be aware of the signs and seasons of the times, and that though such things can take place on biblically relevant times or dates, nothing has to happen on any particular date, whether within the parameters of the Shemitah or in its wake. Our focus must be not on dates but on God and getting right with Him.
At the same time, we remain in a dangerous period—and one of the reasons I've always cautioned regarding dates is that I never wanted such focus to obscure or minimize the larger picture: that regardless of what does or does not happen a particular date, America is racing toward judgment.
In The Mystery of the Shemitah, I share of biblical patterns which, at times, have had stunningly precise manifestations. Each of the last two Shemitahs has climaxed with the greatest stock market point crashes in history on the same exact biblical day—a once-in-seven-year day that happens to be appointed in the Bible for the effecting of financial remission and nullification. It remains a stunningly and eerily precise historical reality.
And precisely because it is so precise and because it happened in the last two of the Shemitah's cycles, many saw it as an absolute that a massive stock market day crash had to take place on the next such day, September 13. Thus we have cautioned repeatedly that this particular manifestation and any particular manifestation does not have to occur in every or any one of the Shemitah's cycles.
At the same time ... having said and having said again all these things—there are a number of very large and significant facts to be noted:
The Shemitah of 2015 has, in fact, followed the most prevalent of the Shemitah's templates.
What was missed by most in focusing on only one day, was that the largest and most prevalent of the Shemitah's templates has, in fact, manifested. The Elul 29 day crash is only one of several manifestations, an exception and a minority template. In each of the last seven of the Shemitahs there has been a collapse—but only two of those seven collapses have involved an Elul 29 day crash. The majority have taken place according to a much larger template.
The larger and, by far, the predominant of the Shemitah's templates is that of a long-term collapse, a collapse taking place over the course of several months, or one in which a rising stock market comes to an end, peaks within the Shemitah year, reverses its momentum, and begins a continuous descent. This descent may, at times, involve increasing volatility and dramatic day crashes, particularly in proximity to the Shemitah climax.And this is exactly what occurred in the Shemitah of 2015.
*The 2015 Shemitah has manifested in accordance this larger and predominant of the Shemitah's patterns, a template that appears in the book repeatedly.
Following the Shemitah's pattern...
- The Shemitah of 2015 ended a rising stock market on May 19, a market that then reversed its overall momentum and began a long-term descent for the rest of the Shemitah year.
- As it approached its final phase, the stock market and its descent grew increasingly and dramatically volatile.
- Nearing its conclusion in late August, the Shemitah produced some of the most dramatic days in stock market history—most notably what would be called Black Monday—and which would trigger the collapse of stock markets throughout the world.
- It produced the 10th largest and 8th largest stock market point crashes in American history
- The Shemitah of 2015 produced the greatest stock market intraday collapse in world history, a crash of over 1000 points.
- It would wipe away 16% of the British market
- It would wipe away 18% of the French market
- It would usher in the dramatic financial collapse of the world's new economic engine—China.
- The collapse of China's financial realm alone constituted one of the greatest long-term stock market crashes in history and, by itself, would make 2015 one of the most significant of Shemitahs.
- The amount wiped out from the Shanghai Exchange, in the space of just a few months was over 40 percent!
- It wiped away approximately one fourth of the German market
- It wiped away 4000 points from the Indian market
- It wiped away 12,000 points from the Brazilian markets
- From the peak of the U.S. market to Elul 29, it would wipe out approximately 2 trillion dollars!
- In the same period, from international markets, it would wipe out a sum in excess of 5 trillion dollars!
In many of the Shemitah years, the turbulence and collapse continue and may intensify past Elul 29, in the period of the Shemitah's wake. In others, they do not. But whatever happens from this point forward, even if nothing further happened, the Shemitah has already most definitely and powerfully manifested.
Other key manifestations that have marked 2015 as an especially significant Shemitah year:
- The Mystery of the Shemitah chronicles how the Shemitah has marked the shifting of world power. So it was again. The American Age began in 1871, when it became the strongest economic power on earth. Within the parameters of the Shemitah of 2015, that era has officially come to its end.
- The Shemitah of 1973 became a milestone in America's moral and spiritual collapse as the Supreme Court legalized the killing of the unborn. The Shemitah of 2015 was no less a milestone in this fall—as it was the year that the nation's hedges protecting the biblical definition of marriage collapsed across the land, and were then, by the Supreme Court, conclusively struck down.
I have said that I believe it is wisdom to be prepared and that regardless of what happens, it is always wise to have essentials on hand—and yet that each needs to be led by the Lord in such things. For you who have done so, I believe you've been wise and are prepared and better off than you would have been otherwise. Regardless of what the future holds, it is a wise insurance that can always be used. And of course the most important preparation one can do is to be right with God.
I have said and repeat now that we stand as a nation in danger of judgment. The Shemitah is one template by which judgment may be manifested. Whether or not what is yet to come will be joined to what has happened in the most recent Shemitah, I believe that this nation is in and approaches days both critical and perilous. I see ahead, apart from the hand of God, days of apostasy and persecution, and, by the hand of God, a great shaking.
At the same time, God's heart is salvation. And the purpose of shaking is to bring to repentance, salvation, and revival to those who will come. At this point I believe it is only through shaking that a true and great revival can come.
For you who would seek safety, the word for safety in Hebrew is Yeshua. And Yeshua is the name of Jesus. Thus the only way to be safe is to be in Jesus, Yeshua. As for you who are in Yeshua, the safest place to be is in the will of God. Make sure that's where you are.
Know that in all things, God remains absolutely on the throne. And the one who lives in His will, lives and stands on the winning side. Now is not the time to be silent, fearful, or compromised, but to be all the more strong and all the more bold. When the night comes and the dark grows even darker, it is then time, for the lights of God to shine even more brightly. Be strong and of good courage. Proclaim the good news of Messiah. And pray for revival but don't only pray for revival—Live in revival.
And as we witness the progressing of the apostasy, as America races to judgment, as the biblical signs, principles, and harbingers of judgment continue to manifest, and as the events of the last days continue to unfold, I will, and we must, continue to sound the trumpet and the alarm, to call to repentance those who will come, and to draw the lost to Messiah Jesus, Yeshua, who remains the same yesterday, today, and forever and the only answer, the only way, and the only hope America has and all have, to be saved.

been so blessed to know him and have him in our midst. It was he who
had the vision for Beth Israel. And he who asked me to go into
ministry. We will have a special celebration of his life, after the

know. He ran the race, he finished the course, and he now receives
his reward. He's rejoicing right now. We need to give thanks to God

Shemitah, the last year of a seven-year cycle in the Jewish calendar, has several times in the past brought immense financial hardships to the world. The biggest Wall Street crash of 1987 happened during Shemitah and so did the bond market carnage of 1994. The 9/11 terror attack happened a day after Shemitah in 2001 and Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy and the subsequent 777-point fall in Dow Jones in 2008 also happed around Shemitah. What has caught the market attention is the fact that Shemitah talks about such crashes occurring every seven year. Legend goes that the last year of a seven-year cycle in the Jewish calendar have brought in immense financial hardships to the world.It so happens that 2015 is the last year of the present seven year cycle. Believers say that the last few days of the Shemitah are the most painful. The present Shemitah ends on September 13, 2015, which falls on a Sunday. But this time around the last day coincides with a solar eclipse. There are only two incidence of a solar eclipse coinciding with the Shemitah in the last 100 years. The first was in 1931, a few days after which England decided to abandon the gold standards which lead to a currency war among various nations, ending with the World War II. And the second was in 1987 when the world saw the greatest single day fall in the Wall Street till then. The greatest fall on the Wall Street apparently has been on September 29th 2008, when Lehman Brothers folded, the date was also the last day of the seven year cycle. Such market lore has always fascinated followers. But Shemitah is not the only cycle that has caught market attention. There are many followers of business and market cycles globally. In fact there are technical indicators designed to highlight the cyclicality in markets. Oscillators, which fluctuate between a value of zero and 100, capture the cyclicality in price movements. Business cycles have a strong correlation with the market. Every boom is followed by a bust with intermediate periods of distribution and accumulations. Among the most famous business cycles is that suggested by Kondratiev. Such cycles are of longer term duration, lasting roughly 60 years. The end of these cycles is accompanied by economic troubles such as the first Great Depression in the USA in 1870s, the Great Depression of 1930s and the current extended recession which started since 2000. The Kondratiev cycle consists of two ‘Secular’ cycle which lasts for around 30 years. In these cycles bull phase is for around 10 years and the bear is for 20 years. Within the Secular cycles there are Cyclical cycles which lasts for four years, one year of which is in a bull market while three in bear market. But the more popular cycles in the market are shorter terms ones. Like the Halloween cycle, more popularly known as the ‘Sell in May and Go Away’. This cycle suggests that historically winter months, starting from Halloween to May have given better returns than if one invests in May and sells in Halloween.The other popular cycle is investing in the month of January which has traditionally been the best month for investing in small and midcap stocks. The logic behind this cycle is that investors (foreign) generally allocate new capital in January after paying for taxes and other costs in December. The illiquid small and midcap shares normally give a strong move on incremental buying. But one of the most followed cycles in the market is the Presidential Cycle. As per the cycle, markets generally touch a new high in the third and fourth year of a President’s four year term. This is because as the President’s term comes to an end he generally tries to prop up the economy and market by pumping in liquidity in the system, in order to get re-elected. Most of the market highs have coincided with the end of the President’s term. Lunar cycles, which has been followed by Indian investors for years (especially the older generation) was popularised after a Harvard Business School Review published its study after researching returns in 25 worldwide stock exchanges. As per the review the annualised mean daily returns in G7 countries were higher around new moons than full moons. It was not slightly higher, as in the case of Halloween cycle, but two or three times higher during new moons in every single G7 country.Most of us would brush aside such cycles as coincidence or selective use of data. But the fact remains that these cycles work and has worked in most of the businesses and markets. Various ancient civilisations have made important decisions based on one cycle or the other. The Shemitah is also based on the principle that after every seven years of farming land should be allowed to recuperate for a year. And after every seven such cycle (49 years) it should be allowed to rest for two years. This explains the need for money at the end of cycles and selling of investments to meet the requirement. Many say that following cycles comes naturally to us as it is now in our DNA. Even if does not, knowing about them is better than being ignorant. Friend, I stood there in front of the Supreme Court on May 28, 2015,
the day the court heard the case to decide the future of marriage in
America. There on the steps, I interceded for America, joined by a
faithful remnant of God's people, some with signs, some in sackcloth,
all with a sense of foreboding.

The
following night, I stood on Capitol Hill before a gathering of
leaders and members of Congress and addressed words to the court and
the president and all who would hear, that to strike down what God
Himself had created and ordained, would be to cross a fateful line,
and to invoke the judgment of the Almighty.
The
next evening, I spoke in Federal Hall, in New York City, on the same
ground, on the same day where our nation's first President, in the
first ever presidential address uttered a prophetic warning: "The
propitious smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation that
disregards the eternal rules of order and right that Heaven itself
hath ordained..."
The
warning, in essence was this: If America should ever turn away from
God's eternal order and ways, God's blessings would be removed from
the land. If any event could ever constitute America's disregarding
the "eternal rules of order and right that Heaven itself hath
ordained" it would have to be the striking down of the biblical
definition of marriage as given in the word of God. The day of which
Washington warned is now. It arrived, as the president said in its
celebration, as a "thunderbolt." We have crossed the line.
Since
the first sharing of The Harbinger, I have warned that we are
progressing down the same road of judgment as went ancient Israel,
accompanied by the same prophetic warning signs as appeared in
Israel's last days. We are now closer to that day.
One
of the last signs to provoke a nation's judgment is that of
desecration. When the palace court of Babylon, under the king's
orders, partied to the gods and drank wine from the sacred vessels of
God's Temple in Jerusalem, it was then, that the handwriting appeared
on the wall, and then that judgment came.
The
rainbow is a sacred vessel of God, a holy sign of His covenant. Bu
twe have now taken that sacred sign of covenant and transformed it
into an object of desecration, having joined it to the desecration of
marriage. It was not only that the sign of the rainbow was raised to
the heavens in celebration of this desecration, but on the night of
America's desecration of marriage, the president caused the walls of
the White House, the highest house in the land, to be illuminated in
the colors of the rainbow, God's holy vessel, to celebrate the
desecration of God's holy order. The American White House had now
become a vessel of desecration. The template of The Harbinger is
playing out as it did in the last days of ancient Israel -- a nation
having been warned of judgment, responds by shaking its collective
fist toward the heavens in defiance. America's desecration of God's
order was a tectonic moment -- enough to provoke a tectonic judgment.
I have said over and over, that I believe a great shaking is coming.
Does that mean there's no hope of revival? Just the opposite. I
believe the only way revival will come is through shaking. Pray for
America, for its return to God. And let that revival begin here and
now, even today... with you. And may the Lord greatly anoint you --
as revival begins.
